Since mid-November, I’ve been working with the Colombian team of BELCO to share a closer look at the lives of coffee producers in Colombia through photography. 

During my first week, we explored The ‘Eje Cafetero’ (Coffee Axis), visiting five different farms, each very different in history, size, people, culture, and vision. What a joy it is to really see the work and lives of these incredible people. I love to combine photography with conversations (as much as my Spanish-level allows (working on that ;)) to build a better understanding of their world. My hope with my photography is to bridge the gap between the Colombian Coffee farmers’ realities to us as European coffee lovers/consumers. I really believe there's still much work to be done in this area. 

Because how much do we truly know about this beautiful coffee-producing country, Colombia?

The second week took me to the somewhat hard to travel to and in ;) Cauca region, specifically the picturesque village of Inzá, about two hours from Popayán. We nicknamed it "Little Colombia-Switzerland" for its rolling green hills, grazing cows, lush grasslands, and extremely interesting bamboo Colombian houses. Visiting Cauca wasn’t the easiest journey, but seeing its breathtaking landscapes—the Cordillera Central, I am so happy everything went fine. Here, we visited four coffee producing families. 

I hope to share a little of Colombia’s coffee culture with you— the beauty, the faces and character of the people: down to earth, without a lot of words (I love it), in appreciation of their land & their coffee, and so so welcoming & kind. It’s a way to honor their kindness and hard work, and I hope to bring a small part of their world into yours.
